My Call to Adventure - Trike Trek '11
Here I've done my best to recreate the tour journal entries section of my previous website - Trike Trek '11 .com.
I wrote all of these journal entries in my notebook from a tent during the tour when I was 18 years old, then transferred them online after the tour. During this tour, we did not have smartphones or GPS. We rode unsupported, and did very little in the way of route planning, having spent so much time and resources on just building the velomobiles - so we ended up taking US 6 all the way. I knew very, very little about bicycle mechanics or building at this point in my life, but I was incredibly interested and ambitious! Adam and I had quite the adventure and the tour has had a significant, lasting impact on my development as a person, and I wouldn't trade a single moment of it for the world.
Doing this tour as a proof-of-concept gave me the inspiration to continue studying fabrication, manufacturing and bicycle mechanics as I grew older, and also serves as the foundation of my philosophy on vehicles and sensible transportation to this day.
I hope you enjoy reading these entries from an unfiltered, 18-year-old me!
FYI, the journals are named "Day 1, Day 2" etc. if riding was done and progress was made that day. Rest days are noted (there were two) then the days pick up where they left off. Not sure why I did it that way, but I did this 11 years ago and don't feel like adjusting it all again, so... I'm sorry if it bothers you 😅
This journal is meant to read in chronological order with the next page linked on the bottom right of each page. To go back a page, simply use your browser back button. This page (the index) will take you straight to any of the individual days, and there is a link to it at the end of each entry. To open the jounal, click Prologue below vvv
